Peplums Please

If you’re looking to add some fun to your drab winter wardrobe, look no further than peplum tops, dresses, and skirts. I thought the trend would have fizzled out by the end of summer, but lately I’ve seen them in every store at the mall and I love the fun variations they’ve come in for the winter season!

Charlotte Russe has tons of peplum tops, skirts, and dresses and many are currently on sale! I suggest shopping for long sleeved peplum tops, or unique ones with fun accents like leather collars, lace panels, or metallic threads! Same goes for skirts and dresses, look
for something appropriate for winter yet still has a fun and trendy aspect to it.

Peplums are very flattering for all
figures so you have to pay close attention to fit. Make sure that the peplum hits you at the correct placement of your natural waist. This zones in on the smallest part of your torso. Also, there should be enough flare and fullness to the peplum so that it balances out the fitted top. Bust darts are imperative to a well fitted peplum. And again, same goes for skirts and dresses. If the peplum is not landing in your waist, it will enhance your shape instead of flatter it.

Once you find the perfect peplum, dress it up! Peplum tops look the best with fitted bottoms, ie: pencil skirts or skinny jeans. If you’re worried about flattering your body, stick with darker shades. For skirts, make sure the top you choose is fitted enough and does not overpower the flare of the peplum. You can have fun by choosing a different color than the skirt too! Now, accessorize! I paired mine with pink accessories to play up the black and white look I was going for. Just make sure it’s all balanced: Pink loafers with a pink SKINNY belt topped off with pink lipstick is perfect way to play up
your peplum, AND in all the right places to ensure your accentuating your body correctly!

Last Minute Gifting

If you’re finding yourself low on time this holiday season or even just low on cash, there are still some great gift ideas available! Gift cards are always a last resort, but before you surrender to the ubiquitous plastic present, check out these ideas!

Nail Kit: Nail art has been huge this past year so make your own little kit like I did above! Pick out one or two nail-polishes and then find little add ons; stickers, rhinestones, a can of nailpolish quick-dry spray (3$ at Ulta), a cute nail file, or even magnetic nail polish. I used mini caviar bead bottles and glitter. Lauren Conrad just featured an INGENIUS nail necessity on her blog: metallic Sharpies. They are perfect for details and French tips, and they’re way cheaper than nail art pens. Wal-mart has a 3 pack of silver, gold and bronze for $3.87!

OR: go big and get an at home gel manicure startup kit!

Healthy Living: Great for any workout fein! Fill a small gym bag up with fun items; a neon sports bra, a jump rope, a fitness magazine, a water bottle, Gatorade packets, a protein bar, etc. My cousin just introduced me to THIS amazing water bottle. It has a filter at its base to infuse chunks of fruit or mint leaves into your water! Yum!

OR: go big and get a pair of running shoes or at-home weight set!

Makeup Maniac: Girls love receiving makeup, it’s just one less thing we have to buy every month or two! Pick one large gift idea like a MAC lipstick and fill a small makeup bag (1$ at the Dollar Tree) with little things like false lashes, eyeliner pencils or even sparkley bobby pins, hair ties and hair donut to make it a mini girls survival kit.

OR: go big and get a full beauty kit from Sephora or Macy’s!

DIY: Case Candy

I personally love changing my iPhone case as often as possible, however, I don’t love waiting weeks for one ordered offline or paying 20$ for one at the mall. So, I craft my own and make them as gifts for friends. It’s a lot of fun, and super affordable. I buy plain cases from the Dollar Tree and then stop at Michael’s and Joann Fabrics and to buy trims, gems, and appliqués with a bunch of coupons. It’s a great craft to do on a rainy day, but just make sure you have lots of superglue, you’ll need a surprising amount!

With the weather getting colder and colder, we tend to layer and layer. So it’s especially important to accessorize and keep your outfits on trend! We all know denim, oversized sweaters, and Uggs get boring too quick.

Lots of gold bracelets can add a sophisticated edge to any look, while something unique like oil spill accessories can modernize your ensemble. It can be easy to overdo it, so if you’re into arm parties, wear a simple necklace and post earrings. Or if you have a statement necklace, stick with layering rings instead of bracelets.

Try to keep your accessories within the same shade and tone to make them look like they came together as a set. Certain golds can come out looking too yellow or fake. Also, tie in your shoes and bag too! Try something unique like using colored or metallic ribbon as laces on combat boots, or attach lots of fun bracelets around your purse strap!
