Today I decided to channel my inner Lana Del Rey with a retro inspired outfit for work. I went with floral leggings, a chartreuse crew neck sweater, basic black ballet flats, and topped it off with a floral headband and cat eye sunglasses and eyeliner. Very simple and basic, yet classic and chic. You can also take it a step further with red lips and stiletto nails for a non-work look!

My Latest Finds

Some of my favorite pieces I have are cheap thrills I’ve stumbled upon at Plato’s Closet. You can really find crazy bargains that have been reduced over 50% from their original retail price. My latest trip there brought me to these two treasures; a Candie’s blazer and Asos top.

The blazer is faux satin with the perfect floral print for spring. Printed blazers are going to be a huge trend this season and I definitely snatched this up the second I saw it, and for 8$ how could I say no?! The Asos top is tweed in the front and black fleece in the back. It has faux leather and chiffon cuffs and collar, with a gold zipper going down center back. It was too unique to put back, and only 12$! Tweed is always in style and this top is going to be a great transitional piece from winter to spring here in temperamental Buffalo.

I definitely recommend you try Plato’s Closet BEFORE you hit the mall with your tax return or latest paycheck. You definitely will not be leaving empty handed!

Retail: Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

I am always looking to save money, especially with my horrible shopping obsessions. So, I am a regular Plato’s Closet recycler. It’s such a smart way to make money AND save money. If you haven’t ever been to Plato’s Closet, they are a retail store that recycles fashion for both guys and girls! Meaning, they buy your old clothes and accessories off of you for instant cash! They then sell these clothes for low prices that are affordable for any budget. So, here’s how you get started:

Step 1: Go through your closet and pick out anything you haven’t worn in the past 6 months to 1 year. Make sure everything is in decent quality and has no stains.

Step 2: Go through your accessories and pick out anything you haven’t used in the past 6 months to 1 year. This means all jewelry (earrings must be on its original hang tag) belts, scarves, purses, and shoes.

Step 3: Fold everything neatly in a large tote bag or shopping bag.

Step 4: Take to your nearest Plato’s Closet and get cash for your clothes and accessories on the spot!

I’ve found that they’re a little picky when it comes to shoes and dresses. However, I typically get around $20-$30 whenever I go there. I also frequently go there for quick events, like holidays, to pick up a quick dress for under $10 instead of spending $30 at the mall for something I’ll only wear once! And usually, they’ll buy it back after you’ve gotten your use out of it!

Plato’s Closet is also a great place to go shopping for quick trends you know won’t be in style for long or for anything in general! They carry tons of Forever 21, Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie, Juicy Couture, Charlotte Russe, and brands from Urban Outfitters. Dresses and skirts typically run $6-$10 dollars and shirts and tank tops $6-$12 depending on brand and style. Shoes are around $10-$20, same with jeans, leggings, and sweaters/blazers/sweatshirts. It’s a place that anyone can bargain shop and I promise you’ll find some great steals! If you haven’t been there yet, I definitely recommend you try it out!

Stock up for Spring

In a few months, spring will be finally be here! That means it’s time to start stocking up for the that cute spring wardrobe and looking forward to wearing heels without chancing a run-in with a snow bank.

Right now, stores are starting to slowly break out their spring stock, so it’s a great time to grab the trendiest new footwear before it’s too late! I finally found the ankle strap sandals I’ve been searching for in both black and nude for 20$ each at Rainbow. I Definitely couldn’t leave the store without buying both pairs.

If you’re on the hunt for bargains, places like T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s currently have great holiday heels for super low prices (I got the Nine West glitter heels above for 15!). Same with Charlotte Russe, their stock is always changing especially after the holidays so check out their clearance footwear, most of it is $10, like the gold capped pumps above!

Or take advantage of the winter weather and order those must-have heels you found online from China with free shipping! They’ll get here just in time for those warm spring days to come and for an unbeatable price you just can’t resist.

“Reboot” your Wardrobe

We all have old or bland items in our wardrobes that could use a little something more. Well, after I found these boots while on vacation in Key West for only $10, I knew I could easily personalize and update them! I made a quick trip to Joann Fabrics and headed toward the trim aisle. I then found 2 different fringe trims and black studs that I was instantly drawn to. After coupons the trims came to about $3! I used a combo of fabric glue and super glue I already had and attached the fringe and studs. I liked the boots before, but after I “rebooted” them, I LOVED them! So next time you clean out your closet, consider personalizing some “oldies but goodies” before tossing them, you’d be surprised what inspiration can come from the craft store!
